The settlement of New London commenced with the marking out of the
town plot and a few rude habitations constructed for temporary use in the year 1645. The
government of the town was organized in 1648 & from that date a regular set of records
is exact- There is no death registered until about 1652, but from incidental sources it is
ascertained that two of the first body of planters died in the earlier part of the same
year, whether here or elsewhere is uncertain. (Miss. Caulkins).
