WINDHAM COUNTY MILITARY RECORDS |
Donated by Jan Harris Cont. (Conn.) means that a man was paid by the United States Government but enlisted from the State of Connecticut. Cont. and Conn. means that he served with the Continental, also in the State regiments. Rejected widows claims.Where there is nothing after the
name that means that either the soldier did not apply or was rejected.
In list The service for which a man was pensioned is not necessarily all of the service that he actually performed. Often, from old age, a man neglected to mention part of his service; and again he might be unable after the lapse of years to prove it. S means survivors file; W, widows file; and R, rejected
file. Often a man was pensioned and the widows claim rejected for
technical reasons, BLWt. Means bounty land warrant. Those issued before 1804 are marked first with the number of the warrant; then with the number of the acres granted. Thos issued later are marked first with the number of the warrant, second with the number of acres, third with 55, indicating that the act under which the warrant was issued was passed in 1855.
