ARTHUR SCOTT, for a number of years identified with the business interests of Danielson, Windham Co., Conn., is now giving his attention largely, if not exclusively, to work as a photographer.

William Scott, the father of Arthur, was a native of Fifeshire, Scotland, and when a young man made his home in Carlisle, England, where he married Margaret Smith. Having mastered the trade of a machinist, he followed that until November, 1872, when the family left England, and coming to America, located at Providence, R.I., where William Scott is still engaged as a machinist.

Arthur Scott, one of the thirteen children born to his parents, of whom five are now living, was born in Carlisle, England, Feb. 9, 1868, and was about four years old when his parents removed their family to this country. His education was secured in the city schools of Providence, and from school he entered the Gorham Manufacturing Company, and later a tailoring establishment to become a cutter. For a time he followed this trade in Providence and Boston, and in 1891 came to Danielson to enter the employ of E.W. Hayward, with whom he remained two years, when he bought out Mr. Hayward. For five years he was engaged as a merchant tailor, when he sold out to William J. Craig, who is still in business. Mr. Scott was very successful, and at times employed as many as eight hands in his shop.

Mr. Scott has a well deserved reputation as a teacher of dancing, and has won for himself a large and well pleased patronage in this line.

Mr. Scott, like many others, has devoted his leisure hours to photography, and his interest in the art has become so overmastering that he has made it his main business. Recently he erected a gallery in the rear of his home on Broad street, and as a photographer, makes quality, and not quantity, his aim. He does not care to turn out much work, but what he does he wishes to be worthy of preservation. Mr. Scott built his elegant home on Broad street in 1895, and it is counted one of the finest houses in the borough.

Mr. Scott was married in Providence, R.I., to Bertha S., a daughter of Hon. Thomas and Pauline (Kellogg) Davis. To this union were born: Walton Bremner, Jan. 7, 1896; Robert Davis, Oct. 6, 1897.

Mr. Scott is a Republican, and belongs to Moriah Lodge, No. 15, F. & A.M., at Danielson.
