QUERIES FOR NORTH STONINGTON CONNECTICUT

November 10, 1996--Charlie King--I am looking for the parents of Joseph Loomer Thompson. Joseph was born in ___Ct. on 27 Dec 1821. He married Harriet Harvey in Charlestown RI. on 9 Feb 1840. Harriet and Joseph had Warren P., William H., Joseph E., Mary E., Sarah A., (my ggrandmother), Harriet T., George W., Thomas A. Ellen M., and Susan F., all born in various towns in Conn. Joseph lived in Stonington, No. Stonington, Preston, and East Lyme. He was buried in North Stonington on 27 June 1887 after having bought a farm there a few years earlier.    The rumor is that the Joseph Loomer Thompson family is tied into the Cheesbrorough family somehow. The name Loomer may be from Ebenezer Loomer who lived in New London and Norwich in the late 1700's. The Joseph Loomer Thompson family had close ties to the Wheelers of North Stonington as well.    Would like to correspond to anybody doing Thompson, Loomer or Wheeler genealogical research.

April 11, 1997, -, Kay McGarry --KINNEY - Looking for parents of Sophronia Kinney/Kinne/Keeney etc. m. Isaac Partelo, 27 October 1837 in Norwich, CT. Isaac was the son of Azariah and Abigail (Nabby) Main Partelo of North Stonington. Sophronia and Isaac were in North Stonington for the 1850 Census and remained there until their deaths. According to one ancestry, Sophronia was the daughter of "Dr. Kinney of North Stonington." The only Dr. Kinney I can find is Dr. Lot Kinney who died in North Stonington Sept. 1, 1877 at the age of 51, and he was listed as "single." Maybe her brother? According to the Barbour Collection, Sophronia was born in Manchester CT in 1817. Any clues at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

May 1997 --Michael J. Boonstra --I am researching the Maine family of Stonington & N. Stonington. In particular I am trying to find the name of Benajah Maine Jr.'s wife. Benajah Jr. was born about 1772, the son of Benajah Maine and his wife Dolly Woodward. He married in Stonington in the late 1790's before removing to Brookfield, Madison County New York. Benajah's first son was named Shepard Wheeler Maine and Shepard's brother Thomas J. Maine also named a son Shepard Wheeler Maine. The Wheeler family of Stonington used the unsual name of Shepard so I believe it is probable that Benajah's wife was a descendant or relation to the Wheelers who are well covered in The History of Stonington. Unfortunately no one has made the connection. Can anyone help?
