November 1997 -- Arch

-- I am interested in obtaining information about the
descendants of
the Reverend James Fitch who died November 18th, 1702 (exactly 295
years
ago today) in Lebanon, Connecticut. He was buried there
also.
I have some information about him. For example, I know that
through
his second wife, Priscilla Mason, one of his daughters,
Elizabeth, married Edward Taylor, the Puritan
poet.
I have also found a reference to the Reverend Mr. Fitch in
Samuel
Sewall's diary. (Friday, July 15-Monday, July 18
1698:
Taylor went to visit his old friend and Taylor
mentioned
Fitch to Sewall.) I am a Fitch descendent
through
his first marriage, to Abigail. I am specifically
interested
in knowing the extent to which the Reverend James Fitch participated
in
the education of Taylor and Sewall, especially
considering
the role that Sewall played in the Salem Witch Trials.
Basically, I am interested in acquiring information about the Fitch
Family
in Connecticut.

31 Mar. 1998 -- John Hoff -- I am researching the SWIFT family of Lebanon and Colchester. My ancestress, Mary Swift, born about 1710, married Daniel Pratt in Colchester in 1733. Mary's parentage is not known, but I believe that she may be the dau. of Josiah and Mary (Bodfish) Swift. She had a brother William who married Eliz. Wheeler in Lebanon in 1734. The Swift history says that Mary, the dau. of Josiah, married a Nathan Barlow of Sandwich in 1732. I and other researchers believe that this is probably incorrect. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

information
on Daniel Newcomb's death date or location, except that he perhaps
died
"after 1789." I have reason to believe he might be
buried in

-- I am looking for anyone with further information on the
following brothers who
are descendants of the ELDER WILLIAM BREWSTER of Mayflower
fame.
Any help with these families will certainly be appreciated!
Thank
you,
Jeannie-ology
1. WILLIAM BREWSTER (WILLIAM5, BENJAMIN4, JONATHAN3,
WILLIAM2,
WILLIAM1) was born Bef. 1701 in Lebanon, New London
County,CT. He
married MEHITABLE ABEL 13 Dec 1716 in Lebanon. Is this WILLIAM
BREWSTER
the same who was brought up at Lebanon, CT, where he lived with
his first
wife, and married a second time at New Haven, New Haven County,
CT, and
then moved to "The Oblong" (The Oblong was a strip of land two and
one-half
miles wide along the Connecticut border, which had been ceded by
the State
of Conn. to New York in 1731 in exchange for lands along Long
Island Sound)
where they lived until 1754, when they moved to Virginia?
They remained
in Virginia where General Bradick was defeated by the French in
1755.
In 1757, the indians drove WILLIAM and his family off, and they
returned
to "The Oblong" where he was still living as of February 1764. The
Oblong
adjoined the town of Ridgefield, Conn., and at the time was in
Dutchess County, NY, (later Putnam County). Some of the villages
of
the Oblong were called Nine Partners, Pawling, Crumebow, Phillips
Patent--in
New York, and New Milford, Sherman, New Fairfield--in Connecticut.
EBENEZER
BREWSTER, brother of WILLIAM, above, was born 1 Feb 1702/03 in
Lebanon,
CT. He married ELIZABETH DE WOLF 13 Nov 1721 in Lebanon, CT,
daughter
of CHARLES DE WOLF and PRUDENCE. It is very possible that
ELIZABETH
died after the birth of their 4th child in 1729, and EBENEZER may
have
remarried, producing a "second" family. EBENEZER and WILLIAM
were
in "The Oblong" as early as March 1746/7, and were taxed there in
1747/48
through June 1753. It is highly likely that both EBENEZER
and WILLIAM
removed with their families to Virginia. We know that
WILLIAM returned
to "The Oblong" in 1757,
and was still there in 1764. However, we do not know
anything
further about EBENEZER and his descendants, unless they remained
in Virginia,
and are part of the puzzle of those seeking the ancestors of
COMFORT BREWSTER
who died in
Wythe County, VA, in 1799.
May 2, 1998, -- Paul E. Turner, -- In search of information on Benjamin Rogers, George Rogers who married Ann Brewster, and Daniel Rogers all who moved from Lebanon, CT to Whately, MA about 1779. -- The Tilden Family. My name is Nathan W. Pyles. I am researching
my paternal
grandmother’s family TILDEN. JOSEPH TILDEN was born 25 March
1784
in Lebanon, CT. He was married to LOIS SULLARD 5 April 1810.
On his
tombstone in Exetor graveyard in New London it states that he was
a General
and that he died on 30 October 1866. He children were the
following:
JOSEPH WHITE TILDEN- My direct g-grandfather
John Barton Tilden ,Lois Loomis Tilden, Elizabeth Ann Tilden,
Aralutia
Adelanie Tilden, Hortense Alamanthia Tilden,
Jasyle Refine Latting Tilden. I am told that Lois Sullard
was
in someway of French descent, and that she came from Onterio,
Canada, or
her family did. I am trying to make the connection with my Tilden
family
in Lebanon, CT to the STEPHEN TILDEN family in Scituate, Mass. I
know that
JOSEPH TILDEN ‘s father or grandfather married ELIZABETH WHITE and
that
is how thier son JOSEPH WHITE TILDEN got his name. I would like to
know
the father of my JOSEPH TILDEN specifically and trace the lineage
from
there. There are so many Joseph’s in the genealogy, it is hard to
keep
track of who is who. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
