13 Jun 1997 -- Doug Zabel -- I am seeking verification of the parentage of Susan B. Guyant (b 3 Aug 1803 in CT; d 27 Sep 1864 in NaAuSay Twp, Kendall, IL). She married Truman Dudley Austin (b 10 Feb 1798 in NY) in Orleans County, NY, in 1825. Given that Guyant is a very rare surname, I believe that she was a daughter of Luke Guyant, a longtime resident of Groton, New London, CT. According to his Revolutionary War Pension file, Luke Guyant was born 5 Mar 1750 in Epping Forest, Essex, England, and died 30 Dec 1837 in Groton, New London, CT. Many children of Luke Guyant are mentioned in his Pension file, but Susan B. is not one of them. US Census records place Luke Guyant in Groton in 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820, and 1830; further, the 1810 census lists 2 females less than 10 years of age living in his household. Susan B. Guyant could be one of these 2 young girls. Does anyone have any information that might clarify the parentage of Susan B. Guyant? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
