Jerusha Hill HAYDEN
Per Chris Yoder:
"...born
April 5, 1825 in Essex to Joseph H. HAYDEN and his first wife
Elizabeth PRATT. She attended the Hill Academy, named after her
grandmother's
brother, Joseph HILL, where she [met] and fell in love with one of her
teachers Hugh Miller THOMPSON of Colrain, Mass (1822 - 1910).
They
married on Feb. 20, 1845 in Essex. This portrait is one of a pair
done of the couple in 1845 by Obadiah DICKINSON. The second had
damage
to the face due to age and was disposed of in the late 1950s.
They
had two children... my great grandmother Elizabeth Elvira in 1846 and
Jerusha
Aurelia in 1850. Jerusha Hill Hayden THOMPSON died May 29, 1850
of
consumption (not long after the painter died of the same disease) and
is
buried in the Grove Street Cemetery with other family members."
