Francis Bell was one of the original settlers of Stamford. He lived on the northeast corner of East Street (Main Street) and South Street (Atlantic Street), where Veteran's Park is now located. There is a stone in that park, with a plaque affixed to it commemorating the site where the first meeting house was built. Francis Bell was an important man in the history of the town. His son, Jonathan, was the first child born to the settlers in the new town of Stamford, CT.
