In 1880 there were twenty-six churches in Bridgeport, which included the following:
Baptist, Congregational, Protestant Episcopalian, Methodist Episcopal, Presbyterian,
Roman Catholic, Universalist, Christian, Advent and Hebrew. [1]

| St. Paul's Church (Protestant Episcopal) | 4 Jun 1858 | Meetings first held at the house of William H. Noble on Stratford Street, and then over a store upon the corner of Crescent Avenue and Main Street. |
| Trinity Church (Protestant Episcopal) | 1 Jun 1863 | First held in a hall over the NY and New Haven RR Depot. The cornerstone of the church, built of freestone is at the corner of Broad Street and Fairfield Avenue. |
